2011 Healthy Workplace Award Winners
In celebration of Canada’s Healthy Workplace Month – October 2011 – Go For Health Windsor-Essex and the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit hosted the 10th annual Working Toward Wellness Healthy Workplace Awards and the 6th annual Bike Friendly Workplace Awards Breakfast.
This year, 25 Windsor-Essex County workplaces received Healthy Workplace Awards for their commitment to the health and well-being of their employees through the provision of organized workplace wellness programs. In addition, 12 workplaces received Bike Friendly Workplace Awards.
To attain a Healthy Workplace award, these workplaces implemented one or more workplace wellness activities (e.g., healthy eating, smoking cessation, physical activity, responsible drinking, etc.) that included all of the following health promotion strategies:
• Awareness raising.
• Education and skill building.
• Environmental support.
• Policy support.
These comprehensive programs can make a positive difference in the health and well-being of their employees. The success of a company is directly linked to the health of its employees. Improving performance is important for all organizations in today’s business climate.
