Employee Contest - I Can Change

As part of our I Can Change initiative for February 2009 – May 2009 we have developed a wellness photo contest.

Purpose of this Contest

The aim of this contest is to give people a chance to display how they participate in wellness activities in any form whether it’s healthy eating or participating in recreation and leisure activities.

Support Materials

  • A sample contest rules and criteria to run the wellness photo contest in your workplace.
  • A sample contest entry form.
  • A sample of a photo consent form. We advise that each workplace consult their own legal department for necessary wording.
  • Poster to promote the I Can Change contest in your workplace with space allocated for writing contest details (e.g. date of contest, where to pick up and drop off photos, prizes to be won.
  • Prizes (2 per workplace, $25 gift certificates for SportChek grocery stores).

Promoting the Contest

In addition to the display materials provided, you may want to consider other ways of communicating contest details to employees. Consider attaching a message to employees’ pay stubs so that every employee has the opportunity to participate, or sending out e-mail or voice mail messages. Here are two sample messages for you to use:

#1 Sample e-mail/voice mail/pay stub message:
As part of our workplace I Can Change initiative, we are offering you the opportunity to win some great prizes by entering a contest. To enter this contest, submit a wellness photo to_______________. Prizes to be won include _____________. The deadline to enter is __________.

#2 Sample e-mail/voice mail/pay stub message:
The deadline to enter the I Can Change contest is fast approaching. For your chance to win, submit a wellness photo to________________. The contest closes on________________.

If you are running this contest at a time other than February 2009 to May 2009, consider offering prizes to encourage participation. Some suggestions could include other cookbooks, salad spinners, meat thermometers, gym memberships, physical activity equipment, and physical activity videos.
