As part of our 5 to TEN initiative, we have developed a Crossword Puzzle and Word Jumble. Contest answers can be found in the HealthIssues newsletter and the brochure entitled, Vegetables and Fruit-Naturally Nutritious and Delicious. Please make these documents accessible to employees. The following information will help you to implement the contest in your workplace.

Purpose of this Contest

The aim is to raise employee awareness about the importance of increasing our vegetable and fruit consumption to five to ten servings a day.

Support Materials

• Wellness brochure – Vegetables and Fruit –Naturally Nutritious and Delicious
• Crossword and Word Jumble (white copies for photocopying)
• Poster to promote the contest in your workplace with space allocated for noting contest details
  (e.g. date of contest, where to pick up and drop off participation forms, prizes to be won)
• Ballot boxes for employees to use to enter the contest (with space to note contest details)
• Prizes

Promoting the Contest

In addition to the display materials provided, you may want to consider other ways of communicating the contest details to employees, such as:

• Attaching a ballot to employees’ pay stubs so that every employee has the opportunity to participate in the contest.
• Sending out e-mail or voice mail messages.

To enter this contest, pick up an entry form at ______________, complete one or both of the puzzles and then deposit your form into the contest ballot boxes. Prizes to be won include:  ______________. The deadline to enter is ______________.

#2 Sample e-mail/voice mail/pay stub message:
The deadline to enter the 5 to TEN Contest is fast approaching.  For your chance to win, pick up the word puzzles entry form at __________________________, complete one or both of the puzzles and then deposit the form at ____________________.  The Contest closes on ____________________.

Prizes

If you are running this contest during the time of the initiative (May – August 2005), we can provide you free of charge with a book entitled, “Dr. Richter’s Fresh Produce Guide” and a BBQ wok for grilling vegetables and fruit. If you are running this contest at another point in time, consider offering prizes as an incentive for employees to participate in the contest.
