Community Resources for Work-Life Balance
The following Windsor-Essex County organizations offer presentations, assessments, treatment, support, or referrals related to the Work-Life Balance initiative. The purpose of the initiative is to address some of the issues associated with balancing roles and responsibilities at work and at home; the Work-Life Balance. Topics covered in the initiative include: shiftwork and sleep, healthy relationships at home, enhancing communication skills, dinner time chaos, and making time for yourself.
Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)

Offers treatment through a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. Their primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety. Individuals with a desire to stop drinking are eligible.

Brentwood Recovery Home

This residential program provides assessment and treatment of substance abuse. Residential and day programs are available for men and women, ages 16 and up. An outpatient youth program is also offered. Those who are attempting to overcome substance abuse and its consequences are eligible.

Prevention and Specialized Services
CMHA also has programs for people who are experiencing some of life's difficulties. Many people cope relatively well with stress and life changes. Some people, however, may need support to get through these challenges. Without adequate support, they put themselves at risk for developing more serious mental health problems. The services offered by the Prevention and Specialized Services Unit offer exactly that - services for people in special circumstances, who may be at high risk of developing more serious mental health problems.

The Community Health and Education offices of the CAMH integrate community needs with research and development to prevent and reduce addiction and mental health problems across Ontario. Through consultation, the agency contributes to building partnerships with communities, professionals, and governments to identify needs, provide training and promote, implement, and evaluate research-based programs, products, and services. Services are available in English and French. No fees. Information presentations on treatment services are available upon request.
Drugs, Alcohol, and Mental Health Information Line (1-800-463-6273)
This free and confidential information line provides up-to-date information and referrals to prevention and treatment resources throughout Ontario. Callers can speak with staff about alcohol, other drugs, and mental health topics, or order printed materials. Over 40-recorded messages can be accessed 24 hours/day in both English and French with a limited selection in
15 other languages.

Challenges for Success Ropes Course

Challenges for Success Ropes Course offers an original approach to team building, personal growth, and leadership skills training. Through a series of activities, initiatives and challenges, facilitators work with groups to explore and develop communication skills, leadership, trust, cooperation, goal-setting, and problem-solving skills. Clients participate directly and experientially in programs designed to work on their specific areas of interest. These new ideas and insights can be transferred back to their work and personal relationships. The Challenges for Success Ropes Course can be used to develop skills with a wide variety of groups ranging from school groups to corporate groups and from recreation groups to therapeutic groups. By assessing a group’s needs, the Challenges for Success Ropes Course staff will create a uniquely designed and customized program.
Community Care Access Centre (CCAC)

CCAC receives referrals from family members. Placement coordinators are available to answer questions or address concerns specific to long-term care options, provide assistance in placing an individual in long-term care, and provide information on rest homes. CCAC can also arrange for home care services, and it provides information and referral about other community and health care services in Windsor and Essex County
Credit Counselling Services of South-Western Ontario Inc.

Provides employees with information on how they can learn more about personal money management by accessing services that include how to budget. Credit Counselling is a non-profit agency that provides counselling services for personal money management, the arrangement of consumer debt repayment programs as well as the promotion of consumer credit education. The agency provides budget-counselling services, which set long and short-term goals and help the client identify and develop a budgeting plan and money management skills. The consumer debt repayment programs provide mediation and intervention on behalf of the client, while working with his/her creditors to resolve financial issues.

Local Employee Assistance Program Providers (EAP)

Many workplaces already have an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) in place. They are designed to reach and encourage employees to seek help as well as link troubled employees with an appropriate helping service. Employee Assistance Programs provide help or counselling in many areas, often including issues related to stress management. If your workplace has an EAP in place, make sure that the program and its services are well known by all employees. If an EAP does not exist in your workplace and you are interested in finding out more, call Renu Khosla from the Windsor District Employee Assistance Program Council at 519-776-6004.

This presentation focuses on establishing pregnancy-friendly workplaces and can be provided
to both employees and employers. Topics include identifying reproduction hazards, risk factors (i.e. physical, social, ergonomic, chemical, etc.), and sample policies and procedures.

These free informational sessions help to prepare for a healthy pregnancy. Topics covered include: steps to a healthier pregnancy; changes in pregnancy; managing labour and delivery; postpartum experience; and infant nutrition. Five weekly sessions are held in Windsor and Leamington on weekdays from 7-9 p.m. Registration is required.

Windsor FOCUS Community provides alcohol and drug prevention and injury prevention programs in Windsor-Essex County. Programs target groups that range from birth to seniors. A special emphasis is on preventing alcohol and drug abuse and injuries due to alcohol and drug use among youth. Windsor FOCUS Community is funded by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care and is operated by the Teen Health Centre.
