The following Windsor-Essex County organizations offer presentations, assessments, support, or referrals related to the Keep Health in Mind initiative and other summer health issues. The purpose of the initiative is to address the importance of achieving and maintaining positive mental health, and how to deal effectively with mental illness. Topics covered include: the connection between physical activity and mental health, how pets affect health, helping someone you know who has a mental illness, coping with a mental illness at work, age and mental well-being, and much more.

Bulimia Anorexia Nervosa Association – Ottawa Street Site
Bulimia Anorexia Nervosa Association (BANA) provides community-based prevention and treatment services for persons diagnosed with and/or affected by an eating disorder. Services include specialized assessment and diagnosis, psycho-education, cognitive behavioural therapy, body image group therapy, relapse prevention, nutrition education, follow up, and after care support group.

CMHA offers a range of services to help people who are seriously mentally ill and those who are working through some of life's difficulties. CMHA also provides public education services to promote mental health.

CMHA also provides referral assistance to those unable to access resources on their own. If you or someone you know has recently been discharged from a psychiatric unit of the hospital, and are unsure of what community services could assist you, CMHA staff can help connect you to the service or services in the community that best suit your individual needs. CMHA’s Community Support Services (CSS) and Essex ACTT Team also offer a range of supports to assist individual’s aged 16 and over, experiencing difficulties related to a mental illness. CMHA’s Resource Centre addresses all requests for case management supports for both programs in Windsor and Essex County.

Employee Assistance Program for Workplaces
The Employee Assistance Program is designed to address concerns through the development of a comprehensive system of professional support, which includes assessment, referral, short-term counselling and follow-up.
A key service area addresses the mental health related needs of the workplace. Work related stress is increasingly recognized as an influence which, combined with the stress of day-to-day living, can result in reduced productivity, reduced job satisfaction, and increased absenteeism. These pressures occasionally lead to problems and difficulties that affect an employee's life and create a need for professional intervention and support.

The Community Crisis Centre is a partnership of area hospitals and social organizations committed to providing 24 hour crisis response services to residents of Windsor and Essex County who are experiencing serious mental illness and / or acute psychosocial problems. The services include:

Glengarda Child and Family Services

Glengarda is a fully accredited, multi-disciplinary Children’s Mental Health Centre located on the campus of Windsor Regional Hospital. Its mission is to meet mental health needs of children and their families in Essex County through:

Iris Inns is a supportive, long-term housing complex for persons with a persistent serious mental illness (schizophrenia, manic depression, or clinical depression). Services include medical treatment, vocational opportunities, and comprehensive rehabilitation. Iris Inns promotes self-respect, courage, hope, and caring in a compassionate environment.
John Howard Society of Windsor-Essex County

The John Howard Society is a charitable, community based organization founded in 1949 and run by a citizen Board of Directors. Their goal is a safer community. The Society provides crime prevention services and education to young people. They also provide practical help to youth and adults in conflict with the law and assistance to their families. They encourage members of the community to be aware of criminal justice issues and to share in seeking solutions to problems of crime.
Programs offered by the Society include:
- The 'New Leaf" Anger Management Program for adult males: This is a twelve-week program to help men understand and deal with the problems of anger.
- The "Taking Charge" program for Women: This is a twelve-week self-management program for women that address such issues as self-esteem, family violence, anger management, healthy/abusive relationships, drug/alcohol dependency, etc.
- Drug/Alcohol Counselling Program: This is a three-session program for suspended high school students.
Maryvale Adolescent and Family Services

Maryvale provides both mental health treatment services to emotionally disturbed adolescents ages 11 to 17 and their families, and provides secure detention for youth between 12 and 15 years of age. Programs include:

Mental Health Consumer/Survivor Employment Association of Essex County

Through counselling and working with supportive employers, the Association helps individuals recovering from mental illness to return to work.
- Ten Friends Diner: The Diner hires individuals, who are recovering from mental illness and are ready to be re-employed. They are provided with restaurant training along with the continued support of counsellors from the Survivor Employment Association.
Regional Mental Health Care, London and St. Thomas

Regional Mental Health Care, London, and Regional Mental Health Care, St. Thomas, offer specialized programs for individuals with severe and persistent mental illness in thirteen counties in Southwestern Ontario. The following programs are based at RMHC, London:
- Specialized Adult - Serving adults from Grey, Bruce, Huron, Perth, Oxford, Middlesex, Waterloo and Wellington Counties. Referrals also accepted from Norfolk County Schedule 1 Hospitals.
- Geriatric Psychiatry - Serving adults generally over the age of 65.
- Adolescent Program - Serving adolescents, ages 13-18 years.
- Developmental Behavioural Management Program - Serving adults between the ages of 18 and 64 with a Developmental Challenge (IQ below 70), as well as a mental health care need.
- Mood Disorders Program - Serving adults affected by severe and complex mood disorders including but not limited to manic depression and bipolar disorder.
- Schizophrenia Treatment and Research (STAR) Program - Serving adults who are affected with Schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorders, and other complex issues.
- Concurrent Disorders - Serving adults affected by a serious and persistent mental illness who also have an addiction.

- Public Awareness: This program reaches out to the community at large to raise awareness about the signs and symptoms of psychotic disorders, encouraging early recognition and treatment. The objectives are to disseminate accurate information about psychotic disorders, thus dispelling the myths and misunderstanding that leads to the stigmatization of those affected by mental illness. Presentations are available.
- Family Support and Education: This program provides support to families of those affected by serious mental illness. This support takes the form of family support groups, based on a self-help, peer support model, as well as ten-week psycho-educational programs for families. It also provides short-term counselling and support to families who are in crisis.
- Presentations are available to workplaces on a variety of topics.
Sexual Assault Crisis Centre of Essex County

The Essex County program is an outreach program designed to take counselling services located in our Windsor office for victims of sexual violence (sexual assault, sexual abuse, and incest). It also offers support for non-offering significant others to those who reside in Essex County through five satellite offices located throughout the county.

The Teen Health Centre is dedicated to helping Essex County’s young people achieve physical and emotional health and well-being through education, counselling, and support. We encourage young people to make their own decisions based on reliable information. Our list of services and programs grows as the needs of our clients surface. While THC excels at helping young people break free of harmful habits and behaviours, we are not here just for clients in crisis. Through education and information, we share valuable life skills that everyone approaching adulthood should know.

The Hospice of Windsor and Essex County

- Wellness Centre Program and Clinical Services: The services include support, education, and counselling for clients with a severe mental illness and a diagnosis of a life threatening illness - in partnership with other SMI agencies.
- Wellness Drop-In Group, Individual Support and Counselling: This program provides support, counselling, and education for the client with a severe mental illness and a life-threatening illness. Support is also provided to caregivers. Partnerships have also been established with other mental illness organizations for continuity of care. Average length of stay is three to five years.
The Windsor Mood Disorders Self Support Group

This group is a completely independent organization with members working together to help each other cope with mood disorders. The group meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month at 7pm at The Canadian Mental Health Association, 1400 Windsor Avenue at Ellis Street, Windsor.
Windsor Family Forum

The Windsor Family Forum provides opportunities, resources, and support to anyone moving through personal change. They provide support to individuals and families in group and one-to-one settings. These services are fee-based although the Forum accepts both money and volunteer work as methods of payment. Services include:

- Windsor Regional Hospital Mental Health Services: This includes specialized inpatient, outpatient, and outreach services to persons with complex mental health issues.
- Windsor Regional Hospital Mental Health and Addiction Programs: This program provides withdrawal management (detoxification) services. Assessment, referral, and treatment services are also available.
- Concurrent Disorder Treatment Program: This program includes social work, assessment, psychiatric consultation, and intense individual and group treatment. The program consists of three group sessions weekly plus individual sessions for eight week duration.
- Dual Diagnosis Outreach Stabilization Program: This program includes psychiatric and nursing assessment, medical intervention, and client and family education. These services are
- provided in the client’s home or alternate normal residence.
- Mood and Anxiety Treatment Program: This program includes psychiatric and psychological assessment, as well as individual and group treatment. The program serves adults with severe mood and anxiety disorders that interfere with daily functioning for an extended period of time, and have not responded to primary care treatment. Treatment duration is normally 12 to 16 sessions primarily using cognitive-behavioural therapy.
- Psycho Geriatric Outreach Program: This program includes social work, nursing assessment, psychiatric consultation, individual counselling, and family support and education.
