Abstinence

Abstinence (refraining from sexual activity at this time in your life) is the only 100% effective method to prevent pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections.

What is Abstinence?

 Choosing not to have any kind of sexual relations with your partner. 

 

How does it work?

 When a couple chooses not to have intimate sexual contact or allow body fluids to be exchanged. Body fluids include; pre-ejaculatory fluid (pre-cum), semen (cum), secretions (fluid) from the vagina, and blood.

 How effective is Abstinence?

 Abstinence is the only 100% effective method in preventing pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). By avoiding skin-to-skin contact in the genital area, rectal area, and mouth, the exchange of body fluids cannot occur.

 Possible Side Effects

There are NO side effects to choosing abstinence.

 Abstinence is a good choice, IF:

 You have not found the right partner yet.

  • You are not sure about your relationship.
  • You are not sure about your partners sexual history.
  • You want the safest birth method on earth.
  • You want to be protected from STIs and HIV.
