Ignore the Ads
Tobacco industry products have long been a part of our society. Smoking has become an accepted habit, not through its practicality, but through advertising techniques by the tobacco industry.
In 2003, the tobacco industry spent $15.15 billion dollars to promote and advertise their products. Why does the tobacco industry need to spend so much money on advertising? The reason is simple; smokers develop health problems more quickly than non-smokers, so tobacco companies constantly need new and young customers. They need to display their name and products where the kids are likely to see them. They advertise in movies, at car shows, at music events, and in convenient stores. In fact, the tobacco industry spent $100 million in 2005 to make sure that kids could see their product behind the counters of convenience stores. Tobacco companies target kids. Youth need to ignore the ads.
