Sexual Health In-Class Presentations

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit along with The Windsor Essex Community Health Center and the AIDS Committee of Windsor offer sexual health workshops to grade 8 and 9 students. This program is approved by the Greater Essex County District School Board and follows the Healthy Living strand of the grade 8 and 9 Health and Physical Activity curriculum.

Grade 8 Presentations:

During the workshop males and females are split into two groups. Each group will receive presentations and participate in activities that promote healthy lifestyles. One group will start with topics including healthy relationships, assertive communication, and refusal skills. At the same time, group two will play Sexual Health Jeopardy which discusses puberty, anatomy, teen pregnancy, birth control including condoms, and most importantly, abstinence. At the end of 75 minutes of presentation the two groups will switch and receive the other’s presentation. At the end of the day the two groups come together for a presentation on sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

The day will begin at first period and ends before last recess. School supervision is required for both the male and female groups during the presentations.

Prior to your workshop, please review with your class male and female reproductive anatomy. Also ensure that parents or guardians are informed about the program. You can download a sample letter to parents and a lesson plan here.

Grade 9 Presentations:

  • Male and female reproductive anatomy and physiology
  • Birth control options including abstinence
