In-Class Workshops – Gr. 8 students participate in a full day sexual health workshop facilitated by a Public Health Nurse from the Health Unit, a Social Worker from Sexual Assault Crisis Centre and a Health Promoter from AIDS Committee of Windsor. The workshops cover healthy relationships, community services, contraception and sexually transmitted infections.
In-Class Workshops – Gr. 9 students participate in 5 classes facilitated by community agency employees during their regular physical education health classes. The program covers: healthy relationships, sexual assault, reproduction, sexually transmitted infections, contraception and local sexual health clinic services. Discussions are facilitated by Public Health Nurses from the Health Unit, Social Workers from the Sexual Assault Crisis Centre, and Health Promoters from the Teen Health Centre and the AIDS Committee of Windsor.
Teacher workshops are held each school year. Teachers are invited to a skill building workshop where they will receive instruction, a facilitator’s manual and other relevant resources. The goal of the workshop is to increase their comfort and knowledge level regarding sexual health. Participating teachers are eligible for in-class workshops. These workshops are facilitated by the school nurse in conjunction with community partners including the Sexual Assault Crisis Centre , Teen Health Centre and the AIDS Committee of Windsor.
“Talking to Your Kids about Sexuality” Workshops for parents, are held in order to support and encouraged dialogue about sexuality between parents and their children. Research supports that parents underestimate their role and indicates that by just talking with their children about sexuality, they increase the likelihood that children will delay engaging in early sexual activity.
