Getting Our Kids Moving Again - Walk Across Canada Challenge

Active Schools logoChildren's health and quality of life can be improved with regular physical activity. Unfortunately, not all children get enough daily activity to keep them healthy. Canada's Physical Activity Guide recommends 60 minutes of moderate physical activity (e.g., brisk walking, skating, swimming) and 30 minutes of vigorous activity (e.g., running, playing soccer) every day for children and youth, ages 6-14. Walking is a great way to begin building those 60 minutes of moderate activity into the day. Not only is it environmentally friendly and cost-effective, but brisk walking can also:

  • Help maintain weight
  • Build healthy bones
  • Foster positive relationships
  • Be fun!

The Walk Across Canada Challenge program is available at all area elementary schools and is a fun way to increase overall physical activity levels for students, staff, and families. For more information contact 258-2146 ext. 1260.
