Lesson 1: Healthy Living Identifying Nutrients
Learning Goals
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:
- Apply communication and critical thinking skills to identify the key nutrients that are found in foods and beverages from all four food groups in Canada’s Food Guide, and describe their importance for growth, health, learning and physical performance.
Lesson 2: Healthy Living Nutrients and Food
Learning Goals
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:
- Identify key nutrients in their personal food selections.
- Apply critical thinking and communication skills to make connections about how their food choices and the nutrients they contain affect their growth, health, learning and physical performance.
Lesson 3: Healthy Living Food Guide Servings
Learning Goals
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of serving sizes in Canada’s Food Guide and the difference between serving sizes and portion sizes apply self-monitoring and critical thinking skills to analyze their own daily food selections using the criteria in Canada’s Food Guide.
Lesson 4: Healthy Living Healthy Eating Goal Setting
Learning Goals
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:
- Apply self-monitoring skills and critical thinking skills to help them analyze their food choices and activity levels and set an appropriate healthy eating goal using the number of servings from each of the four food groups that are recommended for their age and activity level.
Lesson 5: Healthy Living Places and Food
Learning Goals
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:
- Identify different settings and situations where they can make food and beverage selections.
- Apply critical and creative thinking skills to plan a healthy meal or snack that can be consumed or modified for given settings.
- Apply communication skills and critical thinking skills to identify ways of promoting healthier food choices in a variety of settings and situations.
Lesson 6: Healthy Living Healthy Eating Anywhere
Learning Goals
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:
- Identify the factors that influence their ability to make healthy food choices in different settings and situations.
- Apply communication and creative thinking skills to planning a healthy eating campaign to promote healthy food and beverage choices in a given setting.
