Active and Safe Routes to School Pilot Project

The Active and Safe Routes to School (ASRTS) Coalition is presenting several community forums at selected pilot site elementary schools in Windsor-Essex.

ASRTS is a pilot project that addresses the increasing need for safe, walkable neighbourhoods, so children can walk to and from school safely. Walkable includes the supports that are in place to help encourage walking, such as sidewalks, crosswalks, and signs.

The purpose of these forums is to provide parents at the selected pilot schools with information on what ASRTS is about, why ASRTS is important, and to obtain information and input from parents on how ASRTS can be implemented in their school community.

Parents can meet their neighbours and enjoy healthy refreshments while they learn how to reduce morning hassles, support a more active lifestyle, and plan future events that stimulate their children’s learning at school.

This project was made possible through funding by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario. This grant makes it possible for the Active and Safe Routes to School Coalition to work with parents to help implement an ASRTS project in their school community.
