Parents can Help Children Deal with Stress

  • Father and Son Playing baseballMany adults see the world of children and adolescents as carefree but kids will tell you that stress can make their days miserable.
  • Children don't realize that what is stressing them today may not be important next week.
  • Children's thinking isn't fully developed and they don't have experience in dealing with stress so they may not think of ways to deal with stress.
  • Parents must teach their children the skill of problem solving and allow them to practice making decisions they can handle.
  • Children are becoming stressed at younger and younger ages today.
  • Parents need to stop the cycle of stress not add to it. No matter how awful the child's behaviour (tantrums, tears) seems, parents should try to keep themselves in control.
  • Parents' stress can carry over to their children's lives an add to their childrens' stress.
  • How parents deal with stess is very important since children will learn how to deal with stress from watching how their parents deal with stress.
