A New Approach to Regulating Small Drinking Water Systems
Safe drinking water is essential to health. Ontario
has taken significant steps to increase the
safeguards for drinking water systems in Ontario,
including enacting the Safe Drinking Water Act,
2002 and a number of regulations under this
Act, administered by the Ministry of the
Environment (MOE).
Under the Safe Drinking Water Act, 2002, and
the “Non-Residential and Non-Municipal
Seasonal Residential Systems that Do Not Serve
Designated Facilities Regulation” (O. Reg. 252/05),
owners and operating authorities of drinking
water systems that supply water to the public
have responsibilities to ensure the water is safe
to drink.
