HPV Vaccination Program Starting for Grade 8 Girls
The school-based HPV vaccination program is starting the third week of November and continuing throughout the school year.
In Ontario, the HPV vaccine is available FREE to all Grade 8 girls, to protect them from cervical cancer.
Every day a woman dies from cervical cancer in Canada and many more are diagnosed with the disease. There is now a vaccine that prevents infection from the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), which causes cervical cancer.
There has been a great deal of controversy and misinformation regarding the HPV vaccine. To address this, Deb Bennett, Director of Health Protection at the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit, is inviting all parents of Grade 8 girls attend one of two HPV vaccine information sessions.
