Eligibility extended
Your daughter may still be eligible to get the HPV vaccine free from the Health Unit.

HPV immunization is given as a series of three shots, delivered to Grade 8 girls in school based clinics. Now, the eligibility for the free HPV vaccines has been extended and Grade 9 girls can finish the series of shots.

To arrange for your daughter to get the HPV shots, call the health unit at 519-258-2146 ext. 1222.

What does this mean?
It means girls who had at least one dose of the HPV shots in Grade 8 can still finish the vaccine series in Grade 9 for free.

For example: A Grade 8 girl had her first HPV shot in November 2007 but missed the next two shots in January and March 2008. She can still get her next shots anytime between September 2008 to September 2009, while she is in Grade 9.

The publicly funded HPV vaccination program will continue to be offered and delivered to  Grade 8 girls through a school-based vaccination program administered by the health unit.

Human Papillomavirus (HPV)

Every year in Ontario hundreds of women are diagnosed with cervical cancer. As many as 140 women will die of the disease each year. You can now help protect your daughter from cervical cancer with Ontario’s HPV vaccination program for Grade 8 girls.

Grade 8 girls will be offered the free, publicly funded vaccine at school based clinics. If you want your child to be vaccinated by your doctor, the three shots of the HPV vaccine costs between $400-$500. If your child won’t be able to attend the clinic date at her school, there will be ‘catch-up’ clinics at the Health Unit.
