School-Aged and Teens

Children 4 to 6 years of age need a booster shot which will protect against diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, and polio.

Publicly funded hepatitis B and meningococcal vaccines are offered in the schools to Grade 7 students by Windsor-Essex County Health Unit nurses.

Publicly funded human papillomavirus vaccine is offered to Grade 8 girls. Three doses are given by the Health Unit during the school year.

Teens 14 to 16 years need a booster shot for tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis.

The Immunization of School Pupils Act states that parents are responsible for making sure their children are fully immunized. Proof of immunization or a valid exemption is required or suspension from school is possible.
