By restricting the number of places employees can smoke, this may be the motivatation they need to think about quitting. By supporting quitting efforts and offering programs at work, employers are investing in the health of their business as well as the health of the community at large.
The Health Unit can offer assistance through two initiatives. As a result of special provincial funding, the Health Unit can work with businesses respresented by a CAW Local. All other workplaces can receive support and resources through the Working Toward Wellness Workplace Health Promotion Program.
The Smoke-Free Ontario (SFO) Act, in place since May 31, 2006, makes all enclosed workplaces 100% smoke-free, including workplace vehicles. Under the legislation, employers have specific responsibilities to ensure the workplace remains 100% smoke-free.
