Smokers’ Helpline - Telephone Counselling and On-line Resources
Telephone Counselling
The Canadian Cancer Society’s Smokers’ helpline is a free, confidential, bilingual telephone service provided by trained quit specialists. The staff can help smokers develop a structured “Quit Plan”, answer questions about quitting, and refer individuals to services in their own community.
The toll-free service can be accessed at:
1-877-513-5333 and is available:
- Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Online Resources
Smokers' helpline is available online from the Canadian Cancer Society and explains some of the services offered through telephone counselling. It offers helpful resources and access to a supportive online community of others who are in a similar situation.

Once registered, users have access to the following tools:
a) Glove Compartment - this allows you to keep track of your:
- Mileage – the amount of time you’ve been smoke-free, the money you’ve saved since quitting, the number of cigarettes you have not smoked since quitting and the life you have gained by quitting.
- Public Pledge – your commitment to quit smoking and the key reason why you quit
- Passport to Success – your results from all the exercises and quizzes you've completed on your road to success
- Cravings Diary – a graph that shows your decrease in withdrawal symptoms and cravings as you progress through the first few months of your quit
