Quit Smoking Resources for Pregnant Women
The best time to quit is before pregnancy. However, it is never too late to quit. It is important for pregnant women to keep in mind that the earlier they quit, the better the health benefits for themselves and their baby.
There are several resources for women who want to quit, including one from the Health Unit called “Taking the first steps toward a smoke-free beginning: a booklet for moms on smoking, second-hand smoke and quitting”. Smoking and second-hand smoke can affect the outcome of a pregnancy. The booklet, developed by the Family Health Department, provides the facts and then outlines tips and a plan to go smoke-free. A copy of this booklet is available by calling the Health Unit's Family Health Department at 519-258-2146, ext. 1340.
