Quit Smoking Resources for Pregnant Women

The best time to quit smoking is before pregnancy. However, it's never too late to quit. It's important for pregnant women to know that the earlier they quit smoking, the better the health benefits for themselves and their baby.

Several resources for women who want to quit, include one from the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit called “Taking the first steps toward a smoke-free beginning: a booklet for moms on smoking, second-hand smoke and quitting”. Smoking and second-hand smoke can affect the outcome of a pregnancy. This booklet, developed by the Family Health Department, provides facts, tips and a plan to go smoke-free. Receive this booklet by calling the Health Unit's Family Health Department at 519-258-2146, ext.1340.

Other resources include the MotherRisk Information Line at 1-877-327-4636 and the Pregnets website.
