Enforcing the Smoke Free Ontario Act

The Health Unit has hired several enforcement officer as a result of the new Smoke Free Ontario (SFO) Act.  The enforcement officers will work proactively to help the community come into compliance with the requirements of the new law, including workplaces, the hospitality industry (e.g. bars, restaurants) and tobacco vendors.  The enforcement officers will also lay charges under the SFO Act when necessary.

Those witnessing smoking in an enclosed area (e.g. inside a building at work, under a covered patio),  the illegal sale of tobacco products to minors, as well as all other compliants (e.g. illegal cigarettes) can report the incident to the Tobacco Hotline at 519-258-2146, ext. 3218 or tobacco@wechealthunit.org.  All callers can remain anonymous and all information provided is confidential and will not be shared with the public.
