What tobacco retailers need to know about the Smoke Free Ontario Act (SFOA)

For a complete overview of the legal responsibilities required by laws, please download a copy of the Ministry of Health Promotion’s Tobacco Retailer fact sheet from the official Smoke Free Ontario Act (SFOA) website.  The link to the website can be found under "Fact Sheets" in the "Related Contents" section of this site.

The SFOA requires retailers to post the following signage:

  • Age restriction and health warning signs
  • Government I.D. signs
  • No smoking signs

The signs must be placed in a location clearly visible to customers at the point of their purchase.

The signs are available free-of-charge from the Health Unit.  Please contact the Tobacco Hotline at 519-258-2146, ext. 3218 or tobacco@wechealthunit.org to order copies.
