Screen-Free Tips for the Workplace

For those who work at a computer, it's not possible to "turn off the screen," but it's important to fit some activity into the day to relieve stress on the body. Here are some ideas:

Turn of the Screen Logo1. Take a stretch break from your desk and your computer.

2. To avoid eye strain while on the computer, rest your eyes frequently by looking in the distance. Try looking 20 feet away for 20 seconds every 20 minutes. Avoid reading a book on breaks.

3. Take the stairs instead of the elevator to get your heart pumping.

4. Use 15 minutes of your lunch break to walk around your building, inside or out, depending on the weather.

5. Start a walking group with your coworkers. A group will keep you motivated.

6. Invite your coworkers to form a recreational team (e.g. co-ed volleyball) and join a league or plan a social activity that includes some kind of physical activity (e.g. golfing).

7. Limit your screen time at home on the computer and on the TV. Check out some of the suggestions for you and your family in the other Screen-Free Tip Sheets.

8. Lead by example and speak with your co-workers about active lifestyles. Share ideas with each other!

9.  Organize a healthy pot luck
