Turn of the Screen Logo1. Call your local community centre and learn more about the programs and activities that are available for Seniors'.

2. Get involved in the Ontario Senior Games or other sport organizations.

3. Go for a swim at a local indoor pool - they are open all year round! The following centers have a Hoyer lift if you need assistance to get in and out of the pool: Adie Knox Herman, G.A. Marcus, Windsor Water World, YMCA, and St. Clair College (as of January 2006). The University of Windsor does not have a Hoyer lift, but the staff will give assistance. The Lifestyles Family Fitness Centre (Dougall and Cabana) also have wide steps with a railing.

4. Join a mall walking group and walk indoors during days where the weather is less than minus 10 degrees Celcius. Doors open at Devonshire Mall from 8 a.m. Monday through Saturday, and at Tecumseh Mall from 7:45 a.m. Monday through Saturday, and 9 a.m. on Sunday. White Woods Mall in Amherstburg is open from 8 a.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. on Sunday.

5. Park a few blocks away or get off the bus early and walk the rest of the way to your local library, museum or art gallery.

6. Plan an adventure with your grandchildren; help them build a snowman and play some games.
7. Check out the continuing education opportunities at your local parks and recreation centre or at St. Clair College. Sign up for a course at the University of Windsor; it's free for seniors!

8. Renew your interest in history. Go for a self-guided walking tour of the historical sites in Olde Sandwich Towne. Check out the latest seasonal activities at J.R. Homestead, or visit a local museum. The Ontario Convention and Visitors Bureau can provide maps and information on the many historical sites in Windsor-Essex County.

9. Check out the Community Outreach concert series by the Windsor Symphony.

10. Take a walk around Point Pelee National Park or Ojibway Nature Centre.

11. Check out the trails on the Chrysler Canada Greenway. Phone the Essex Region Conservation Authority at 776-5209 for information.

12. Read a favourite book, or join a book club or play cards with your friends.

13. Become a volunteer.

14. Gather your family or some friends and go bowling.
