Screen-Free Tips for Adults
Adults watch on average 22.5 hours of Television per day (Statistics Canada, 2004) and that’s excluding the time spent on the computer. With obesity rates rising largely due to physical inactivity, adults need to limit their screen-time and get active! Here are some tips.
1. Bundle up and take a walk around your neighbourhood or explore a local trail.
2. Review the sculptures along the River Walk on Riverside Drive.
3. Take a walk along the boardwalk at Point Pelee National Park or ice skate on the marsh when weather permits.
4. Join a recreational activity like dance classes or a co-ed volleyball league.
5. Take a self-guided walking tour of historical sites in Old Sandwich Towne.
6. Visit your local library and check out the new book releases.
7. Organize a fun "indoor" day with friends and family; play board games or turn on some favourite tunes and have a dance party.
8. Sign up for an interest course and learn something new; check out the continuing education opportunities at your local parks and recreation centre or at St. Clair College.
9. Explore the Chrysler Canada Greenway Trails. For details, phone the Essex Region Conservation Authority, 776-5209.
10. Go skating at your local arena, bowling, curling, or swing your golf clubs at an indoor driving range.
