Reliable Nutrition Advice

The term "Registered Dietitian" is protected by law to ensure that only those who have met national educational standards and who live up to the Code of Ethics for the Dietetic Profession in Canada can use the title. Consult a Registered Dietitian to ensure you are getting quality nutrition advice.

Registered Dietitians are acknowledged professionals that have an in-depth scientific knowledge on diet, food and nutrition.  Dietitians are able to separate fact from fiction, healthy diets from fad diets and translate the science of nutrition into balanced food choices.

Individuals practicing as a Registered Dietitian have completed a bachelor’s degree with major credits in Foods and Nutrition that is recognized by Dietitians of Canada.  They have also completed a program of supervised practical experience which may be a post-degree internship, co-operative undergraduate program or a graduate coordinated program.

The title Registered Dietitian is protected by law through  provincial legislation so that only qualified practitioners who have met the education qualifications can use the title.  The title Nutritionist is not protected by law and may be used by people with different levels of training.  Some Registered Dietitians do use the title of Nutritionist to indicate the completion of a recognized graduate program.  You may contact the College of Dietitians of Ontario, the provincial regulatory body, to ensure that you are receiving services from a qualified nutrition professional.
