Eat Smart! Workplace Program
New in 2008! The Eat Smart! Workplace Program recognizes workplaces that meet exceptional standards in nutrition and food safety and that support a non-smoking environment. Congratulations to Chez Vanier at the University of Windsor - our first Eat Smart! workplace in Windsor-Essex county.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is now participating in the Eat Smart! Workplace Program. This program offers the advantages of the restaurant program to the workplace. The Eat Smart! Workplace Program supports healthy environments by meeting these three criteria:
- Healthy Food Choices - the facility must provide a variety of healthier food choices, on the menu and by request, including whole grains, vegetables and fruit, lower fat options and substitutions;
- Food Safety - the facility must have an excellent track record in food safety based on the requirements of Ontario’s Food Premises Regulation and at least one full-time kitchen employee certified in safe food handling; and
- 100% Smoke Free Dining - the facility must be in compliance with the Smoke-Free Ontario Act (2005) and not sell tobacco products or accessories.
To nominate a workplace or to apply to become an Eat Smart! Workplace, call the Nutrition Hotline at 519-258-2146 ext 3100 or email nutrition@wechealthunit.org.
