Reducing The Risk of Skin Cancer in Windsor's Children
To protect Windsor's children from the harmful rays of the sun, the City of Windsor - Parks and Recreation Department, the Optimist Club of Riverside, and the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit have built a shade sail structure in Mic Mac park over part of the new splash pad.
The shade sail is the first of its kind in South-Central Ontario. Shade sails are fabric structures made in various shapes, colours, and sizes and are suspended by steel cables to provide shade protection from ultraviolet rays. Seeking shade is an important sun safety measure that reduces the risk for skin cancer. Shade sails are a great alternative to typical shade structures and Mic Mac Park is very fortunate to have the first one in our community.
