Motor Vehicle Safety
Did You Know?
- Even though Ontario is an international leader in road safety, motor vehicle crashes are still a leading cause of serious injury (Canadian Institute for Health Information, 2010).
- Every week in Ontario, about 100 people are admitted to the hospital for an injury from a motor vehicle crash (SMARTRISK, 2009).
- Drivers who use cell phones while driving (e.g., dialing and texting) are four times more likely to get into a crash. Those between 17-24 years of age are most at risk (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 2006).
Motor vehicle crashes can be caused by many factors, such as speed, distractions, drowsy driving, impaired driving, etc. Operating a motor vehicle demands a driver's full attention. Road Safety is everyone's responsibility.
