March is Nutrition Month.

This year, Dietitians of Canada are inviting all Canadians to “Celebrate food… from field to table!” This is a great opportunity to teach the children in your care about healthy eating, where their food comes from, and how it’s grown.

Children can learn about where their food comes from by:
  • Singing songs about farms like “Old MacDonald had a Farm.”
  • Reading stories about foods.
  • Talking about where food is grown.
  • Starting small garden projects like growing carrot tops, cherry tomatoes, green onions, strawberries, green beans, or other vegetables in small pots.
  • Pretending to be wheat or corn growing from a seed to a tall plant.
  • Colouring pictures of animals, fruits, and vegetables.
  • Making a pretend farm or garden from coloured pictures.
