Dr. Heimann has announced the first 4 positive cases of H1N1 influenza in Windsor-Essex County. Two males and two females between the ages of 21 and 29 were identified.

As of 3:00 p.m., May 5, 2009, our total remains at four confirmed cases in Windsor-Essex County. Two males and two females between the ages of 21 and 29 were identified. All cases are recovering, none were hospitalized, and all were linked to travel to Mexico.

Dr. Heimann, Medical Officer of Health, announced 1 further confirmed case in Windsor-Essex County. The individual is a 21 year old male. This brings the local count to five individuals; three males and two females between the ages of 21 to 29. All cases are recovering, none were hospitalized, and all were linked to travel to Mexico.

Health Unit Launches 2009 West Nile Virus Strategy
On Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 11:30 a.m., the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit held a media conference to review the 2009 West Nile Virus strategy, provide information to the media, and demonstrate sampling from a pool of standing water.
H1N1 Flu Update - Friday, July 24, 2009
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit will no longer be reporting individual cases of H1N1. This follows the changes in reporting requirements specified by the World Health Organization. The Health Unit will continue to monitor the number of cases, and will be notifying the public of clusters of cases identified in our community. We are still in communication with hospitals on a daily basis.
Canadian Food Inspection Agency Issues Health Hazard Alert
Certain Maple Leaf, Shopsy’s, and Hygrade brand wieners produced at establishment 611 may contain Listeria Monocytogenes. These brands of wieners produced at this facility have been recalled.

The Windsor-Essex Infection Control and Prevention Committee will be hosting the conference on September 16, 2009. Register by September 9.
First Mosquitoes Found with West Nile Virus
Windsor-Essex County – A mosquito pool in the City of Windsor tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV). This is the first sign of WNV in Windsor-Essex County this year. The virus is a potentially serious infection spread by certain types of mosquitoes.
Ontario's Flu Vaccine Strategy
Ontario will immunize people 65 years of age and older and residents of long-term care homes, with seasonal flu vaccine first. Ontario will offer the rest of the province’s population the H1N1 vaccine beginning in November followed by a universal influenza immunization program with the seasonal flu vaccine in the months following.
2009 H1N1 Flu - Weekly Update
Tuesday, December 22, 2009 - We are now into the second wave of the H1N1 flu outbreak. There have been a total of 187confirmed cases of H1N1 in Windsor-Essex County since May. Cases continue to be mild, and 71% of infected individuals have been under the age of 30. The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care have launched their "You Call the Shot" campaign, encouraging individuals to get the H1N1 and Seasonal Flu shot in January.

Increase of Vomiting and Diarrhea Illness (Gastroenteritis) in Windsor-Essex County
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has noted an increase in vomiting and diarrhea illness (gastroenteritis) in our area.
Confirmed Case of Mumps Update - March 22nd, 2010
On March 22, parents of Northwood Public School students received a letter notifying them of a confirmed case of Mumps. This letter provided information on the signs and symptoms of Mumps and preventative measures in order to decrease the potential spread of the disease. The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit will be monitoring the school to identify other potential cases, and will be communicating with school officials on a daily basis.
Probable Case of Measles - Monday, May 17, 2010
A probable case of Measles at Frank Begley School has been reported to the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit. The Health Unit is working closely with the school administration to identify any possible secondary cases of measles.
Notice of Pesticide Use
Between June 1st, 2010 and October 31st, 2010, a mosquito larviciding program will be conducted to reduce mosquito populations, under the authority of the Medical Officer of Health, under Ontario Regulation 199/03 and by permit approval of the Ministry of the Environment, in the following communities: Windsor, Essex, Tecumseh, Lakeshore, Leamington, LaSalle, Amherstburg and Kingsville.
