Criteria for Administration of Second Dose for Children

As per the Public Health Agency of Canada's "News Release" dated November 12, 2009, the following criteria will be used for administration of the H1N1 flu vaccine second dose to children.
  • Children 6 months to under 3 years of age require 2 half-doses (.25 mL) at least 21 days apart.

 

  • Children 3 years to under 10 years of age with chronic medical conditions require 2 half-doses (.25 mL) at least 21 days apart. The chronic medical conditions include:

 

      • Asthma and chronic lung disease
      • Blood disorders
      • Diabetes
      • Heart disease
      • Kidney disease
      • Neurological disorders
      • People with weakened immune systems (people taking cancer drugs or people with HIV/AIDS)
      • Severe obesity

 

  • Healthy Children 3 years to under 10 years require only one half-dose (.25 mL) of H1N1 vaccine.
