Human Resources Officer Board Report

TO THE CHAIRPERSON AND MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF THE WINDSOR-ESSEX COUNTY HEALTH UNIT 2007 JUNE 21.

We continue to be very busy with recruitment for various positions.  We are very pleased to say we have finally hired an epidemiologist.  Dr. Mukarram Ali Zaidi will be coming to us early in the fall of this year.  He comes to us with an impressive background with experience from Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) and the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation.  He’s eager to commence his job.  He and his family will be relocating from the Ottawa area.

We are also very pleased to welcome Mr. Dan Sibley into the non-union position of Tobacco Co-Ordinator.  As a staff person, Dan worked as a By-Law Enforcement Officer for the past year and a half.  He has an extensive background in security with the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Association.

On June 1st, McTague Law Firm put on an excellent WSIB issues workshop at the Caboto Club. The topics that were included in the session addressed Return to Work, stress claims, working from home and young workers and were very relevant to outstanding issues with the Health Unit.  Ms. Doreen Snelling will be representing the Health Unit at the Appeal Board of WSIB for three cases dealing with denied claims.

The Vitality Committee will be having a staff Picnic on June 26th in Windsor and June 27th in Essex to promote the New Canada Food Guide.  There will be a fee of $6 charged for a great variety of healthy picnic foods.  We will be doing some activities to help wear off your lunch.  If you are around the Health Unit on those days, please feel free to join us.

The Policy and Procedure Committee will reconvene to continue drafting policies for various issues for implementation.  Our next meeting is on June 20th.

The Health and Safety Committee meets regularly.  There are no serious concerns at this time.  The Ministry of Labour came into our last meeting and gave us a clean record.  Ms. Holly Thompson is the new ONA representative on the committee.

Wishing you a very good and safe summer and look forward to working with you all again in September.
