 - Finding breast cancer early saves lives.
 - If a breast cancer is found early when it is very small, there is a good chance of a cure
 - Mammograms (breast X-rays) can find small breast cancers 2 to 3 yrs before they grow in size andcan be felt by touch.
 - Two major risks factors for developing breast cancer are being a women and over fifty years. Three out of every four breast cancers are found in women fifty years and over.
 - Most women who develope breast cancer do not have a family history.
 - Women who are fify years and over should have a breast screening every two years.
 - The Ontario Breast Screening Program is available for all women fifty years and older. It is a FREE service.This screening service provides; high quality mammgraphy; physical examination of your breast (most sites) ;information and teaching personal breast self examination and will send a personal reminder for your next screening.

The Health Unit works with the Ontario Breast Screening Program to increase recruitment in their program. 
The Health Unit also works with community groups, women and health professionals to coordinate services, identify gaps and barriers to screening and develop and implement strategies to increase recruitment for cervical cancer screening.
